Publishing 101

A short orientation for authors new to the trade. It is not legal advice.

KDP and wide

Kindle Direct Publishing can enroll a book in Kindle Unlimited, which is exclusive to Amazon for the ebook. Wide means the ebook is also at other retailers. Pick one path per book and say so in your retailer links.

ISBN

Amazon can assign an ASIN without you buying an ISBN. An ISBN matters if you publish wide or in print under your own imprint.

ARC

An advance copy may be given free. A review must stay voluntary and honest. Do not offer gifts, and do not ask for five stars. Ask readers to disclose that they received a free copy.
